Here’s another in the series of Radio Shack DIY videos I’ve been working on. This one is about building your own intervalometer (a device that controls the shutter of a camera for shooting time-lapse).
Update: The full build instructions are available on the intervalometer project page on the Radio Shack DIY web site.
Hi,
it’s really frustrating seeing the ideal project without any plans schematics or anything. I don’t even know which print issue the details will be in. Is it really not possible to make these available?
Well, I complained on the Radio Shack site that there were no instructions, and the page has now disappeared. Does that mean that you can now provide instructions?
Brian- sorry about your frustration. It will actually be a couple more months before the accompanying article is printed in Popular Mechanics (the Sept. issue which shows up on stands in August) and the full instructions are released online. They did release the video in advance, so I posted it on my blog, but I think I’ll hold off and posting prematurely like this in the future, so as not to be such a tease!
In the meantime you may find some other arduinio intervalometer projects online.
Thanks Ken,
I’d hate to think that I was personally responsible for preventing future sneak peeks, if that’s what they are, but I would like to suggest a couple of words explaining that it is an advance look and a prediction of when the instructions will be out. I understand contractual embargoes, and I can be patient… all I need is a ball park for when to look for a magazine that I don’t normally subscribe to… that’s the frustrating bit!
As it is, you’ve given me the issue to look for, and that’s great! Your project looks ideal so I am happy to wait for that.
Many thanks,
Brian
Hi Ken,
well the issue is out and wow, what a disappointment! It appears exactly the pdf on the site, both of which point to http://www.radioshackdiy.com for “full instructions” which cannot be found _anywhere_
Now that the advertorial has been printed, could you please release the _real_ full instructions somewhere? I have searched high and low and cannot find the circuit diagram and arduino software. This has been teasing me for 3 months!
Thanks,
Brian Williams
Just to clarify, it points you to this:
http://www.radioshack.com/graphics/uc/rsk/Support/ProductManuals/RadioShackDIY_CameraIntervalometer.pdf
which is the same as in this month’s PM.
Something has gone very wrong.

The parts list is incomplete and there is no schematics.

I agree with Brian. This is very frustrating. I got the most recent issue of Popular Mechanics, and when I saw this advertorial I was excited to get to work on it. Then I had to wait nearly a week before it even showed up here. And now its giving me no more information than the magazine already told me. I would really like the full how-to with parts lists like you have done for previous advertorials.

I’m baffled by this as well, as I did develop detailed instructions to accompany this project! I’m looking into it with the folks at Popular Mechanics and Radio Shack. One way or another, I’ll make sure that the instructions get released.
Update on missing instructions: Looks like this was just an oversight. The instructions should be up shortly on the project page: http://www.radioshackdiy.com/project-gallery/intervalometer
I just checked back and the full instructions are now available for download here: http://www.radioshackdiy.com/project-gallery/intervalometer
